I’ve been a patient for about 8 years and if I could give a billion stars I would. She’s so beyond compassionate, insightful, intelligent, inspiring, and helpful generally. Anyone worth their weight in salt would agree. I would be nowhere near as far in my healing journey without her. She continues to be instrumental in my trauma recovery and has always been an awesome provider. She’s non-judgmental, knows when to challenge me, and uses a lot of different techniques in her practice. I highlyyyyyyy recommend her, and any of her team members. 10000000000000/10 stars. :)

Productivity culture has colonized the self-help space so thoroughly that even the most personal practices — like how we wake, how we move, and how we nourish ourselves — have been reframed as optimization opportunities. Your morning is a stack. Your evening is a protocol. Your life is a system to be engineered. I want to offer something different. A routine and a ritual can look identical from the outside. Both might involve the same cup of tea made at the same hour in the same mug. Both might include a walk, a journal, a moment of solitude. The difference is entirely interior. *And it changes everything.* ### What Makes a Routine a Routine A routine is a repeated behavior oriented toward efficiency and outcome. Its measure of success is completion. You did the thing. You checked the box. The routine served its function. There is nothing wrong with this — routines reduce cognitive load, create stability, and free up mental energy for more demanding work. They are genuinely useful. And they do not feed the soul. A routine keeps you functional. It does not keep you alive in the deeper sense. It does not connect you to the larger rhythms of your life, your body, the earth, or the sacred. It does not ask anything of you beyond presence and repetition. ### What Makes a Ritual a Ritual A ritual is a repeated practice infused with intention, meaning, and attention. Its measure is not completion — it is connection. Connection with yourself, with the Divine, and with the texture and colors of the present moment. Rituals are, at their core, a form of prayer. They say: this moment matters. This life matters. I am paying attention. Across virtually every human culture and recorded history, ritual has been understood as essential to psychological and spiritual wellbeing. The anthropologist Arnold van Gennep, in his 1909 foundational work *The Rites of Passage*, identified ritual as the primary mechanism through which human beings navigate transition, transformation, and the thresholds of life. We are, as a species, ritual animals. We do not simply pass through time. We mark it — and that marking is how we make meaning. This understanding is woven into the [art therapy work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we do at Fox + Feather. Creative practice, when approached with intention, becomes ritual. It becomes a way of saying: I am here. This matters. I am paying attention to my own life. ### How to Ritualize What You Already Do The invitation is to take what you already do and bring it alive with intention. This does not require more time. It requires more presence. **1. Choose one daily moment** Morning tea. The walk to the mailbox. Washing your face before bed. Choose one small, repeated act that already belongs to your day. **2. Add a threshold** A threshold is the signal that shifts you from automatic to intentional. It can be as simple as a single conscious breath before you begin. Or lighting a candle. Or placing both hands around your mug before your first sip. The threshold says: this is the moment I arrive. **3. Name what you are tending** Ask yourself, even silently: what am I caring for in this moment? Your body. Your creativity. Your grief. Your gratitude. Your connection to the morning. Naming what you are tending transforms the act from habitual to devotional. **4. Close the ritual** A ritual has a beginning and an end. A simple closing might be a breath, a word of thanks, a moment of stillness before returning to the day. The closing honors that something real happened — even in two minutes over a cup of tea. **5. Let it be seasonal** Rituals that shift with the seasons stay alive. A morning ritual in late September, as the light changes and the air cools, might look different than it did in June. Let the earth’s rhythms inform your practice. This is attunement. You do not need to redesign your life. You need one moment each day that is fully, deliberately yours. That is ritual. That is enough. If you find yourself drawn to this kind of intentional, embodied practice and curious about what deeper support might look like, our [team of licensed art therapists](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) is here. We offer [individual art therapy sessions](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/individual-art-therapy-sessions/) for female-identifying clients, trans-femme individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, ages 8 and older, in person in Guilford, CT and via telehealth throughout Connecticut. A ritual is a repeated practice infused with intention, meaning, and attention. They can look identical from the outside — the difference is entirely interior. Rituals connect you to yourself, to the present moment, and to something larger. Routines keep you functional. Rituals keep you alive. **Why are rituals important for mental health?** Anthropologist Arnold van Gennep identified ritual as the primary mechanism through which human beings navigate transition and transformation. Research in psychology supports the idea that intentional, meaning-making practices support nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, and a sense of grounded identity — all of which are central to the [art therapy work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we do at Fox + Feather. **How does art therapy relate to ritual?** Creative practice, when approached with intention, becomes ritual. At Fox + Feather, art-making is not just a clinical tool — it is a devotional act, a way of marking that this moment and this life matter. Many clients find that their time in the studio becomes one of the most meaningful rituals of their week. **How do I start building ritual into my day?** Start small. Choose one repeated daily act — morning tea, a walk, washing your face — and add a threshold: a breath, a candle, both hands around the mug. Name what you are tending. A Mabon Reflection and Fire Cider Recipe for the Season](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/uncategorized/what-are-you-willing-to-release-a-mabon-reflection-and-fire-cider-recipe-for-the-season/) **Published:** September 21, 2026 **Author:** admin **Content:** ## Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, and the Ancient Art of Making Fire Cider Dear Wild Ones, This Tuesday, September 22nd, the sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night hold equal ground. Mabon — the Autumn Equinox and second of the three harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year — arrives at our doorstep. Mabon is a moment of exquisite balance. Light and dark exist in equilibrium, a pause before the days tip towards darkness. The trees are beginning their release, reminding us that death and decay are both essential components of the creative growth cycle of our lives. In the Wheel of the Year, Mabon carries the energy of the second harvest — a time to gather what has ripened, to give thanks for abundance, and to begin the intentional turn inward. If Lammas asked what you had been growing, Mabon asks: *what are you willing to release so that what matters can remain?* It is also the season when the body begins calling for warmth, for depth, and for inner nourishment. This is the time for soups and root vegetables, for candles lit earlier in the evening, for the kind of self-tending that the body asks for when the light recedes. And it is, traditionally, the time to make Fire Cider. ### The History of Fire Cider Fire Cider is an herbal tonic with deep roots in the folk herbalism tradition of apple cider vinegar-based remedies — a lineage that stretches back centuries through ancient Persia and Greece, where oxymels (herbal preparations combining vinegar and honey) were used as medicine and food simultaneously. The modern iteration of Fire Cider was created by Rosemary Gladstar, one of the most revered herbalists in North America, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gladstar developed the recipe during her teaching at the California School of Herbal Studies, in a class on winter wellness. Her intention was straightforward and radical: to bring medicinal herbalism back into people’s kitchens, to treat food as medicine, and to keep traditional herbal knowledge freely shared and communally held. Gladstar’s original recipe — horseradish, garlic, onion, ginger, and cayenne steeped in raw apple cider vinegar — spread through the herbalist community for decades, passed hand to hand, jar to jar, adapted and personalized by thousands of makers. It became one of the most recognized herbal tonics in modern folk medicine. In 2014, the tradition was threatened when a commercial company attempted to trademark the name “Fire Cider,” seeking to prevent other herbalists and small businesses from using it. Rosemary Gladstar led a years-long community campaign — the Free Fire Cider movement — that ultimately succeeded in having the trademark revoked. The victory affirmed a core principle of folk herbalism: traditional remedies belong to the people. Fire Cider belongs to all of us. And autumn is its season. Every year my family and I make Fire Cider around Mabon. Once ready, I add it each morning to my hot water upon waking. For me, it is fire in my belly — it awakens and enlivens my spirit while keeping my digestive system fueled through the sluggish winter months. ### Mabon Fire Cider Recipe This recipe is grounded in Gladstar’s original tradition with seasonal additions suited to the autumn harvest. It steeps for four to six weeks — make it now and it will be ready well before the cold season arrives. You will need a quart-sized glass jar with a lid. **Ingredients:** - ¼ cup fresh horseradish root, grated - ¼ cup fresh ginger root, grated or thinly sliced - 1 whole head of garlic, cloves peeled and roughly chopped - 1 medium white or yellow onion, roughly chopped - 1 tablespoon dried rosemary - 1 tablespoon dried thyme - 1 teaspoon black peppercorns - ½ teaspoon dried cayenne pepper, or 1 fresh hot pepper sliced - 1 organic lemon, zested and juiced - 1 tablespoon turmeric powder or a 2-inch piece of fresh turmeric - Raw apple cider vinegar — enough to fill the jar completely - Raw honey — to taste, added after straining **To make:** Pack all solid ingredients into your jar. Pour raw apple cider vinegar over everything until fully submerged, filling to the top. If using a metal lid, place a piece of parchment paper between the jar and lid — vinegar corrodes metal over time. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for four to six weeks, shaking the jar daily. When ready, strain through cheesecloth, pressing all liquid from the solids. Compost the solids. Add raw honey to taste — start with two tablespoons and adjust. Bottle and refrigerate. Fire Cider keeps for several months. **To use:** Take one to two tablespoons daily as a tonic, especially as cold season approaches. Mix into salad dressings, drizzle over roasted vegetables, or take straight as a shot. It is warming, pungent, bright, and alive. ### A Mabon Moment Before you begin making your Fire Cider, hold each ingredient in your hands for a moment. Horseradish for fire and clearing. Garlic for protection and community. Ginger for warmth and courage. Onion for layered truth. Lemon for brightness and joy. Let the making be a ritual. Let the autumn kitchen be your altar. This kind of intentional, embodied practice — bringing full presence to a simple act — is at the heart of the [art therapy work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we do at Fox + Feather. If the turn inward this season has you curious about deeper support, our [team of licensed art therapists](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) is here. [Schedule your free 15-minute consultation](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/) or call us at 860-393-0940. Happy Mabon, dear ones. May your harvest be full and your release be gentle. With Love and Glimmer, Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC Founder + Owner Fox + Feather Healing Arts ## **FAQ** **What is Mabon?** Mabon is the Autumn Equinox — the moment when day and night are in perfect balance — and the second of three harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year. It falls around September 22nd and marks the beginning of the turn inward, a time to gather what has ripened, release what no longer serves, and prepare for the darker months ahead. **What is Fire Cider?** Fire Cider is a traditional folk herbal tonic made by steeping pungent, warming ingredients — horseradish, garlic, ginger, onion, cayenne — in raw apple cider vinegar. The modern recipe was created by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar in the late 1970s and has been freely shared through the herbalist community ever since. It is taken as a daily tonic, especially during cold and flu season. **Who is Rosemary Gladstar?** Rosemary Gladstar is one of the most revered herbalists in North America. Post-eclipse integration coupled with the stomach bug just days prior to the start of school was — messy. These are also the moments where I really shine. I have this ability to root in the eye of the storm, make my to-do lists, pray to my guides, and get er’ done. Have you checked in with yourself this week? How are you feeling? What do you need that you’re not getting? These sacred pauses allow us to listen and attune to the sacred shifts within and around us. The astrology of 2026 has revealed new doorways to me. My gifts are asking to be offered in new and more dynamic ways. And I have something very exciting to share. ![Poster for 'Calling Her Home' SoulCollage retreat, showing three women in a sunset coastal collage with flowers and art tools.](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/calling-her-home-soul-collage-retreat-1024x512.webp)### Introducing: Calling Her Home This March, I am hosting a weekend retreat alongside SoulCollage® queen, Kat Kirby. **Calling Her Home: A SoulCollage® Retreat with the Triple Goddess** takes place Friday, March 5th through Sunday, March 7th, 2027, at Mercy by the Sea — a breathtaking retreat and conference center situated directly on the ocean in Madison, Connecticut. In 2018, Kat trained me to become a SoulCollage® facilitator. It is an absolute dream to now be working alongside her. Together, we will guide a small group of women through the SoulCollage® process — an intuitive collage practice used by facilitators worldwide. Our creative exploration will be framed through the three faces of the Triple Goddess: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. ### The Triple Goddess These three archetypes are alive inside each of us, regardless of age. The Maiden carries curiosity, beginnings, and unguarded desire. The Mother holds the capacity to create, sustain, and fiercely protect. The Crone carries wisdom, discernment, and the courage to name what is true. Learning to recognize and embody these energies — in community, by the sea, through the language of image and intuition — is a profound act of coming home. In times of rapid transition and evolution, the notion of home is more important than ever. ### What Is Included - All meals for the weekend, prepared by Mercy by the Sea’s renowned kitchen (dietary restrictions accommodated) - Lodging at Seascape, the retreat house overlooking the ocean, entirely reserved for our group - All art supplies for your SoulCollage® deck - Facilitation by two trained SoulCollage® facilitators - Access to Mercy by the Sea’s private beach, meditative walking labyrinth, library, art gallery, and manicured grounds ### What You Will Leave With - A personal deck of at least five hand-crafted SoulCollage® cards you can return to for guidance - A clearer, working relationship with the Maiden, Mother, and Crone as they live inside your own decisions and patterns - A reset nervous system and a few days of not managing anyone but yourself - Connections with other like-spirited women No prior art experience is required. No prior SoulCollage® experience is required. What is required is a willingness to listen to what is already alive inside you. Only a small number of spots are available to protect the intimacy of the container. ![](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/soulcollage-retreat-3-1024x576.jpeg)![](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/soulcollage-retreat-9.jpeg)![](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/soulcollage-retreat-8.jpeg)👉 [Reserve your place here](https://events.humanitix.com/calling-her-home-a-soulcollage-r-retreat-with-the-triple-goddess) For questions, contact Sarah directly at <sarah@foxfeatherhealingarts.com> I can’t wait to make art with y’all by the sea. These energies are alive in all of us, regardless of age, and the retreat will explore how they show up in your own life and patterns. **Where is Mercy by the Sea?** Mercy by the Sea is a retreat and conference center located directly on the ocean in Madison, Connecticut. The retreat group will have exclusive use of Seascape, the retreat house overlooking the water, for the full weekend. **Who is Kat Kirby?** Kat Kirby is a trained SoulCollage® facilitator who certified Sarah Guercia in the SoulCollage® method in 2018. She and Sarah will co-facilitate the retreat together, bringing complementary depth and experience to the container. **Do I need art experience to attend?** No. No prior art or SoulCollage® experience is required. The only prerequisite is a willingness to listen to what is already alive inside you. **How many spots are available?** Spots are intentionally limited to protect the intimacy of the retreat container. I am not going to tell you that I feel exactly the same as I did at 25, because I do not. My body is different. I’ve birthed two 9-pound babies and produced enough breastmilk to fill a swimming pool. My wrinkles are evidence of dancing till I cry, crying till I puke, singing till I laugh, and storytelling along the way. Like the moon, I accept that my life has seasons — and those seasons are etched on my skin. The way I move through a room, the way I make decisions, the way I know — with a specificity that still surprises me — what I will and will not accept: all of it is different. And I am more myself than I have ever been. Psychologist Carl Jung is widely credited with the observation that life really does begin at age forty, and that everything before is research. I have pondered this sentiment a lot this past year, and every time I do, it feels increasingly true. My 30s were beautifully harrowing — marriage, two births (one of which occurred inside a pandemic), Fox + Feather’s inception, several significant deaths (such as my therapist), the bulk of my eating disorder and sexual abuse recovery. My 30s did not fuck around. They burned away so much false programming around who I thought I was supposed to be — and left nothing but truth behind. I feel more powerful, more alive, more magickal, more feral, and more resilient than I ever have before. I really don’t give a shit about what most people think of me. And that is true freedom. I’ve curated my life — people, wardrobe, thought patterns, and objects — to only contain those that add glimmer to my life. I know what I believe in. I know who and what I’ll fight to the death for. I have cultivated a direct conversation with Spirit and Goddess, and at any point in any moment I know how to call forth my cauldron of magick. I am a threat to the patriarchy because I refuse to comply. I will no longer play small, shut up, be nice, apologize, over-explain, or defend my existence. This kind of stance creates a polarizing effect. People love me. Or they don’t. All that to say — we’ve been sold a lie, folks. Forty isn’t over the hill. Forty is the ignition point. If you are approaching a milestone birthday, or sitting inside one, or on the other side of one looking back: I see you. Our culture works damn hard to tell us all that showing signs of aging is a moral failing. Fuck that. In the words of poet Mary Oliver: *“Tell me, what is it you plan to do* *with your one wild and precious life?”* If this reflection stirred something in you — if you are in your own season of becoming and could use a space to explore it — our [team of licensed art therapists](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) is here. She has been pregnant with abundance all summer and now she releases it. The grain bending under its own weight, the fruit swelling on the branch, the earth exhaling the long breath of summer — these are the great gifts of Gaia’s womb. Lammas invites us to open into receptivity. To tune our frequencies to the dial of prosperity. For those doing the long work of healing, this is a real practice. The Goddess’s question at this threshold is tender and direct: *How do you receive nourishment in your life?* This question sits at the heart of the [eating disorder recovery work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we do at Fox + Feather. Nourishment — whether from food, from relationship, from creative expression, or from the earth itself — requires the willingness to receive. And for many of our clients, that willingness is exactly what has been interrupted. Learning to receive is not passive. It is one of the bravest things a person can practice. ### Sunshine Lammas Lemonade I have been drinking this all summer and feeling incredibly luxurious in my act of hydration. Lemons carry associations with solar energy and late summer brightness — a natural offering for this threshold. Make a pitcher and share it with someone you love. **Ingredients:** - 3 cups water - ⅓ cup raw honey - 3–4 hibiscus tea bags - 1 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed from 5–6 lemons - 1½ cups coconut water - Fresh mint leaves **Instructions:** Boil 3 cups of water and remove from heat. Add honey and stir until melted, then add the tea bags and steep for 20 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags. Add lemon juice and coconut water. Muddle fresh mint in the bottom of a pitcher. Add ice and pour the lemonade over it. Before you drink, hold the glass and say aloud or silently: *“Thank you for what has grown. I receive this harvest with gratitude.”* ### Harvest Map Directive On a piece of paper, draw a simple field. Inside it, write or draw what you have been growing this year — intentions, relationships, inner shifts, creative work. Circle what feels ready. Star what is still ripening. The Goddess tends what she has planted, and so do you. This kind of reflective, image-based practice is at the core of the [art therapy work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we offer at Fox + Feather. If you find yourself moved by these directives and curious about what deeper creative healing might look like for you, we would love to talk. With Love and Glimmer, *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ## **FAQ** **What is Lammas?** Lammas, also called Lughnasadh, is the first of three harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year, celebrated on August 1st. It is one of the four great Gaelic seasonal festivals alongside Imbolc, Beltane, and Samhain, and marks the beginning of the harvest season in the Northern Hemisphere. **What is the Wheel of the Year?** The Wheel of the Year is a calendar of eight seasonal festivals rooted in ancient Celtic and agricultural traditions, observed in modern Pagan, Wiccan, and earth-based spiritual practices. Each festival marks a threshold in the natural cycle of the year and carries its own teachings, rituals, and invitations. **What does Lammas have to do with healing?** Lammas asks us to practice receptivity — to open to nourishment, abundance, and the fruits of our labor. For those healing from [eating disorders](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/), trauma, or disordered relationships with nourishment, learning to receive is often one of the most profound and challenging aspects of recovery. **What is a Harvest Map Directive?** A Harvest Map Directive is a simple art therapy–inspired practice: draw a field and fill it with what you have been growing this year — intentions, relationships, creative work, inner shifts. Circle what feels ready. Star what is still ripening. It is a grounding, reflective exercise that can be done with any materials you have on hand. **How does art therapy connect to seasonal and spiritual practices?** At Fox + Feather, we weave the rhythms of nature — including the seasonal festivals of the Wheel of the Year — into our clinical work. We believe the body and the earth speak the same language, and that tuning into natural cycles supports nervous system regulation, presence, and healing. Let's Name It.](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/uncategorized/diet-culture-stole-something-from-you/) **Published:** July 22, 2026 **Author:** admin **Content:** ## The Narrator Inside Your Head Isn’t Yours — What Diet Culture Took and How Art Therapy Helps You Take It Back. I want to talk about something that has been stolen from most of us so gradually, so thoroughly, that many people do not realize it is gone. The ability to be in your body without commentary. ### What Diet Culture Actually Is Diet culture — the system of beliefs that assigns moral value to body size, food choices, and the relentless pursuit of thinness — colonizes the interior. It installs a narrator inside the mind that evaluates, compares, restricts, and judges from the moment we wake up until the moment we fall asleep. Many people have lived with that narrator for so long that it simply sounds like their own voice. It doesn’t belong to you. It belongs to a system. And that system profits from it. The global diet and weight-loss industry was valued at over $250 billion as of recent estimates — an industry structurally dependent on its customers’ continued dissatisfaction with themselves. Research consistently shows that approximately 95% of diets fail within two to five years, with most people regaining the weight lost and often more. This is a result of the body’s biological response to caloric restriction — a survival mechanism, not a failure of willpower or character. ### Who Diet Culture Harms Diet culture carries documented harm across race, gender, and body size. Black, Indigenous, and people of color face disproportionate harm from weight stigma in healthcare settings. Transgender individuals experience layered pressure to control or alter their bodies to be deemed acceptable. Women and girls remain the primary targets of an industry built on manufactured inadequacy — and men are increasingly targeted as well. Naming this is an act of clarity. And clarity is where healing begins. At Fox + Feather, our [eating disorder recovery work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) is rooted in body trust, somatic attunement, and the understanding that nourishment is a relationship. Like all relationships, it deepens through listening, patience, and a willingness to stay present even when it is uncomfortable. ### What Recovery Returns In our work with clients healing from eating disorders and disordered eating, we consistently witness the same things emerge as the work progresses: The ability to feel hunger and fullness as neutral, informative signals. The experience of moving through a meal without a running mental audit. The capacity to move the body for pleasure, rest, or sensation. The return of creative appetite — clients’ creativity often emerges as disordered behaviors diminish. And the remembering of one’s authentic, wisdom voice. That last one matters deeply to us at Fox + Feather. We have observed, again and again, that the inner voice diet culture installs polices creative expression with the same ferocity it polices food. When one loosens, so does the other. [Art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) and eating disorder recovery are the same track in our work — two expressions of the same reclamation. ### An Invitation If you recognize yourself in any of what I’ve described today — the constant commentary, the body vigilance, the exhaustion of living at war with your own hunger — please know that support exists. Recovery is possible, and it does not require you to already believe that. I often say: we will hold the Hope Torch for you until you feel ready to carry it on your own. Our [team of licensed art therapists](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) specializes in eating disorder recovery through art therapy — a modality uniquely suited to reaching the parts of the self that diet culture has most deeply silenced. We serve female-identifying clients, trans-femme individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, ages 8 and older, in person in Guilford, CT and via telehealth throughout Connecticut. Visit our [individual art therapy sessions page](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/individual-art-therapy-sessions/) to learn more, or [contact us](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/) to schedule your free 15-minute consultation. You can also call us directly at 860-393-0940. Your own voice is still there. Our work is to help you hear it again. *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ## **FAQ** **What is diet culture?** Diet culture is a system of beliefs that assigns moral value to body size, food choices, and the pursuit of thinness. It operates through media, medicine, and social norms to create and sustain dissatisfaction with the body — and it is backed by a global industry worth over $250 billion that profits from that dissatisfaction. **Why do diets fail?** Research shows that approximately 95% of diets fail within two to five years, with most people regaining lost weight. This is not a failure of willpower — it is the body’s biological survival response to caloric restriction. Sustainable healing comes from rebuilding trust with the body, not from continued restriction. **How does art therapy support eating disorder recovery?** [Art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) reaches the parts of the self that diet culture has most deeply silenced — through creative expression, somatic attunement, and body-based processing that verbal therapy alone cannot always access. At Fox + Feather, art therapy and eating disorder recovery are not separate tracks. They are the same work. **What is an anti-diet approach to treatment?** An anti-diet approach rejects the idea that weight loss is a health goal or a measure of recovery. It centers body trust, intuitive eating, and the healing of the relationship between a person and their own hunger, fullness, and nourishment. Fox + Feather is passionately anti-diet in all of our clinical work. **Who does Fox + Feather serve?** We serve female-identifying clients, trans-femme individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, ages 8 and older. This month I have coined our thematic arc: ***the messy middle**.* Anxiety is high, uncertainty abounds, and the mind is desperate for solutions. Sound familiar? ### The Season We Are In I believe that the first half of 2026 was a season for deep and profound soul reconstruction. While resting, in our dream states, and while immersed in creative practice, our spiritual body has been hard at work rewriting our cellular codes — in partnership with the energies of astrological transits, and the light pulses our galactic families have been sending to Earth to assist in our great Becoming. Am I getting too woo-woo for you? Still with me? Consider this: when the caterpillar enters the cocoon, it turns to complete liquid. Primordial guck and sludge. From this complete dissolution, the wings of the butterfly eventually emerge. ![A large black and blue butterfly clings to a branch under bright green leaves, with a transparent chrysalis hanging above it.](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/fox-feather-healing-arts-transformation-blog-post-1024x683.png)Our human process is no different. July has been a hot and messy season of swimming in the goo. Our task is not to force a knowing or a solution. Rather, I believe, our work is to hold the liminal grid of the unknown — which then allows the emergence of what’s next. ### Marion Woodman and the Fallow Time Marion Woodman, a Jungian psychoanalyst, wrote extensively about what she called the “fallow time” in women’s creative lives — the periods that look like stagnation but are actually the soul doing its deepest underground work. She understood these dark feminine periods not as something to overcome, but as the very ground of transformation. The body, she taught, is the alchemical vessel where this work happens. And the fallow time is not empty time. It is sacred time that asks something specific of us. This teaching resonates deeply with the [art therapy work](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) we do at Fox + Feather — the understanding that healing is not linear, that the quiet seasons are not failures, and that what looks like dissolution is often the beginning of becoming. ### What Woodman Recommended for the Fallow Time **Tend your dreams.** Woodman kept a dream journal faithfully and encouraged women to record dreams immediately upon waking — not to analyze them intellectually right away, but to sit with the images and let them resonate. She believed the dream imagery “has the transformation right in it” and tracked the sequence of images to see where the energy wanted to go. **Bring the images into the body.** Woodman taught that bodywork is soul work. She would lie on the floor, breathe slowly, and allow dream images to be felt in the body rather than thought about in the head — letting the energy of the unconscious move through her physically rather than managing it mentally. **Make something.** Her BodySoul Rhythms work included art-making, mask-making, movement, voice, and ritual as ways of giving form to what was gestating underground. The point was not to produce a finished product, but to let the hands and body participate in the emergence. This is, at its core, what [art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) asks of every client who walks through our door. **Journal to bring it to consciousness.** After movement or image work, she would write as a form of sacred witnessing. She believed we must bring the underground material to consciousness for transformation to complete itself. **Resist the urge to rush.** Her teaching emphasized patience and organic timing. The trick, she said, is not to rationalize everything immediately, but to let things resonate in the deeper self — even when it feels chaotic or unproductive. **Face what you are avoiding.** Woodman believed the neglected places are precisely where transformation begins. She encouraged women to face, not avoid; to address, not suppress; and to surrender, not resist the shadow parts — trusting that what we are willing to be with will eventually offer its gifts. ### You Are Not Alone in the Goo I’m right there with you, my loves — asking the big questions about who I am, why I’m here, and how to most fruitfully shepherd my gifts into the world. If you are in your own messy middle right now, know that you do not have to move through it alone. Our [team of licensed art therapists](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) at Fox + Feather specializes in holding space for exactly this kind of deep, underground work — for women, trans-femme individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, ages 8 and older, in Guilford, CT and via telehealth throughout Connecticut. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. [Reach out here](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/) or call us at 860-393-0940. The cocoon is not the end of the story. It never was. *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ## **FAQ** **What is the “messy middle” in the context of healing?** The messy middle refers to the liminal phase of transformation — the space between who you were and who you are becoming. It often feels like stagnation, anxiety, or confusion, but Jungian theory and art therapy both recognize it as a period of profound inner work. It is not something to escape. It is something to move through. **Who was Marion Woodman?** Marion Woodman (1928–2018) was a Canadian Jungian psychoanalyst, author, and teacher who wrote extensively about feminine psychology, the body, dreams, and transformation. Her work on the “fallow time” — periods that look like stagnation but are actually the soul’s deepest work — has influenced generations of therapists and healers. Her books include *The Pregnant Virgin* and *Dancing in the Flames.* **How does art therapy help during times of uncertainty or transition?** [Art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) provides a way to give form to what cannot yet be spoken — to make the underground visible, to move energy through the body rather than manage it mentally. For clients in the messy middle, creative expression becomes a container for the transformation that is already underway. **Does Fox + Feather work with clients going through major life transitions?** Yes. Our [individual art therapy sessions](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/individual-art-therapy-sessions/) support clients navigating a wide range of experiences — including trauma recovery, eating disorder healing, identity exploration, grief, and the kind of deep existential transition that doesn’t have a name yet. **How do I get started?** We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. Creativity is not a hobby. It is not a talent reserved for the gifted few. It is not a productivity tool or a form of self-improvement. It is not something you do when you have free time. Creativity is medicine. Ancient, accessible, and yours by birthright. ### What I Have Witnessed in Fifteen Years Here is what I have witnessed in fifteen years of art therapy practice: people arrive at our studio unable to speak about what has happened to them. The words don’t exist, or they’ve been locked away for so long that language feels like the wrong tool entirely. And then they pick up a brush, or tear a piece of paper, or press a crayon into a page — and something moves. Not fixed. Not solved. Moved. That movement is the beginning of healing. ### The Clinical Science Behind Art Therapy This is not a metaphor. Art therapy is a clinical, evidence-based modality with its own graduate training requirements and national licensing standards, governed in the United States by the Art Therapy Credentials Board. The American Art Therapy Association defines art therapy as a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art-making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals. Research consistently demonstrates its effectiveness in reducing trauma symptoms, improving emotional regulation, and supporting eating disorder recovery — precisely because the brain processes visual and creative expression through different neural pathways than verbal language. The body participates. The nervous system responds. Images can carry what words cannot. This is why [art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) reaches people that talk therapy alone sometimes cannot. It is not a replacement for other forms of care — it is a doorway that opens something different. ### How We Practice Art Therapy at Fox + Feather At Fox + Feather, art is not an add-on to therapy. It is the therapy. It is how we help clients express what has been unspeakable, reconnect with their bodies, move through [eating disorder recovery](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/), process sexual trauma, and build a relationship with themselves that is rooted in truth rather than fear. We serve female-identifying clients, trans-femme individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, ages 8 and older, across the Connecticut Shoreline and via telehealth for anyone located anywhere in CT. You do not need to be an artist to benefit from this. You never have. You just need a willingness to let your hand move before your mind decides what it means. ### Your Invitation If you’ve been curious about art therapy — for yourself, a daughter, a partner, a friend — this is your invitation to reach out. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, and we currently have openings with our team of licensed art therapists. Call us at 860-393-0940, visit our [individual art therapy sessions page](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/individual-art-therapy-sessions/), or [contact us here](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/). The medicine is waiting. *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ## **FAQ** **What is art therapy?** Art therapy is a clinical, evidence-based mental health profession that uses the creative process of art-making to support emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. It is governed in the United States by the Art Therapy Credentials Board and requires graduate-level training and licensure. Learn more on our [Art Therapy Services page](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/). **Do I need to be artistic to benefit from art therapy?** No. Art therapy is not about making good art — it is about using the process of making to access, express, and process what is difficult to reach through words alone. No prior art experience is needed or expected. **How is art therapy different from regular therapy?** Traditional talk therapy works primarily through verbal language. Art therapy engages the body, the nervous system, and visual-creative neural pathways that verbal processing does not reach. This makes it especially effective for trauma, dissociation, and eating disorders where the body holds what words cannot fully express. **What conditions does Fox + Feather treat with art therapy?** We specialize in eating disorder recovery and trauma healing, including sexual trauma and PTSD. We also support clients navigating anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions. Our [individual art therapy sessions](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/individual-art-therapy-sessions/) are tailored to each client’s needs. **How do I schedule a consultation?** We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. Visit our [contact page](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/) or call 860-393-0940 to get started. **Does Fox + Feather accept insurance?** Yes. We accept Husky insurance and most FSA and HSA plans. Visit our [pricing page](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/pricing/) for more information. **Why Choose Fox + Feather Healing Arts** Fox + Feather is Connecticut’s only group art therapy practice dedicated to eating disorder and trauma recovery. Since 2017, we have been combining anti-diet philosophy, intuitive art therapy, and the rhythms of nature to create a healing space unlike any other on the Connecticut Shoreline. Litha — the Summer Solstice — occurs at 8:24 UTC on June 21, 2026, making it the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Wheel of the Year, Litha is one of eight sabbats: a celebration of abundance, vitality, and the fullness of life in bloom. The word “Litha” itself appears in Bede’s 8th-century work *De Temporum Ratione* (On the Reckoning of Time), where he recorded the Anglo-Saxon name for the summer months as “Lida,” meaning mild or navigable. The name was adopted into modern Neopagan and Wiccan practice in the 20th century. And then, quietly, imperceptibly — after this Sunday — the light begins to recede. ![Sunflowers in a sunlit field under a blue sky with sparkles in the air.](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/fox-feather-healing-arts-litha-2026-1024x683.png)### The Most Profound Teaching of the Wheel I find this to be one of the most profound teachings of the Wheel. At the very moment of greatest light, the turn has already begun. Not as loss — but as reminder. Nothing stays at its peak forever. The fullness of this moment is made more precious by its transience. This is not a reason to grieve. It is an invitation to be present. Litha asks us: *Are you actually here, in your life, right now? Or are you rehearsing the future, or replaying the past?* ### Presence, Trauma, and the Work of Healing For those of us healing from trauma and eating disorders, presence is not a given. Our nervous systems have often learned to live anywhere but the present moment — because the present moment, for a long time, was not safe. Dissociation, numbing, hypervigilance — these are not character flaws. They are survival strategies. And part of recovery is gently, patiently learning that it is safe to arrive. At Fox + Feather, our [art therapy services](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) are rooted in exactly this kind of work — using creative expression to help clients return to their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and build a relationship with the present moment that feels safe rather than threatening. Whether you are navigating [eating disorder recovery](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/), processing trauma, or simply learning to inhabit your own life more fully, art is one of the most reliable doorways back. Art is one of the most reliable doorways back. ### Litha Art Directive: A Solstice Sun Wheel You’ll need paper and any color materials you have on hand — paint, crayon, marker, collage. Draw a circle in the center of your page. This is your sun — your center, your light source. From the center, draw rays outward. On each ray, write or draw one thing that is fully alive in you right now. A relationship. A desire. A creative project. A feeling. A grieving process you are navigating. A joy you are allowing yourself to feel. When the wheel is complete, place it somewhere you’ll see it this week. Let it be a map of your present fullness. This is presence. This is Litha. This is the work. Wishing you a luminous solstice, dear ones. *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ## **FAQ** **What is Litha?** Litha is the Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Wheel of the Year, it is one of eight sabbats and is celebrated as a time of abundance, vitality, and presence. The name derives from the Anglo-Saxon word “Lida,” recorded by the scholar Bede in the 8th century. **What does the Summer Solstice have to do with mental health?** The solstice is a natural invitation to practice presence — to arrive fully in your own life rather than rehearsing the future or replaying the past. For those healing from trauma or eating disorders, this kind of grounded presence is often a central part of recovery work. **How does art therapy support trauma recovery?** [Art therapy](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) uses creative expression to help clients access and process experiences that are difficult to reach through verbal language alone. It engages the body and nervous system directly, making it particularly effective for trauma, dissociation, and eating disorder recovery. June is here, and with it comes Pride Month — which means Fox + Feather is showing up. Loudly, joyfully, and with our whole hearts. Before we get to the celebration, I want to say something plainly: Pride was never just a party. It was born as a riot. ### The History Behind the Rainbow In the early hours of June 28, 1969, New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn — a gay bar in Greenwich Village that had become a refuge for gay, lesbian, and transgender patrons in a city where homosexuality was criminalized and anti-gay raids were routine. This particular night, the patrons fought back. What followed were six days of protests and clashes with law enforcement on Christopher Street and in surrounding blocks — a sustained uprising that catalyzed the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Among those at the forefront were Marsha P. Johnson, a Black self-identified drag queen and activist, and Sylvia Rivera, a Latina transgender woman and activist. Both were active participants in the uprising and went on to co-found Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) in 1970 — one of the first organizations in the United States dedicated to supporting homeless transgender youth. One year after Stonewall, on June 28, 1970, thousands of people marched through Manhattan in what was then called the Christopher Street Liberation Day March — the first Pride parade in American history. That history is not behind us. It is present-tense. ![Person raises a large rainbow Pride flag against a clear blue sky, celebrating LGBTQ+ pride.](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/pride-1024x683.png)### The Mental Health Reality in 2026 Right now, our queer and trans family members are navigating a political climate that questions the validity of their identities and restricts their access to care. The mental health toll is real and documented. According to the Trevor Project’s 2024 National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, 84% of LGBTQ+ youth wanted mental health care — and 50% were unable to access it. Research published in peer-reviewed literature confirms that LGBTQ+ individuals face significantly elevated rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and eating disorders compared to their cisgender and heterosexual peers, with transgender individuals at even greater risk. Access to affirming, competent mental health care is not a luxury. For many in our community, it is a lifeline. ### How Fox + Feather Shows Up At Fox + Feather, we specialize in serving womxn, trans-femme clients, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This is not a footnote in our mission — it is the heart of it. Our [art therapy services](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/) provide a space where you never have to shrink yourself to receive care. Where your identity is not a complication to navigate — it is welcomed, honored, and celebrated. We serve clients ages 8 and older, in person in Guilford, CT and via telehealth throughout Connecticut. So what does Pride look like for us? It looks like a booth at community events, staffed by a woman in fox ears and her team. It looks like free art-making stations and real conversations. It looks like clinical care that never asks you to shrink yourself to receive it. It looks like showing up — every single week — and saying: you are seen, you are welcome, and your healing matters. If you are looking for [LGBTQIA+-affirming therapy in Connecticut](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/art-therapy-services/), we would be honored to walk alongside you. [Meet our providers](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/meet-our-providers/) or [reach out to schedule a free consultation](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/). ### A Pride Art Directive Take a blank page. Choose the colors that feel most like you — not the colors you think you should choose, the ones that actually feel true. Fill the page. No shapes required, no plan. Just color moving from your body onto paper. When you’re finished, look at what you made and ask: *What is asking to be celebrated in me right now?* This is the essence of Pride. Not performance. Not permission. Just the radical act of taking up space. Happy Pride, Lovelies. We love you without condition. *— Sarah Guercia, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, Founder + Owner* ### **FAQ** **What is LGBTQIA+-affirming therapy?** LGBTQIA+-affirming therapy is mental health care that actively validates and supports queer, trans, and gender-diverse identities. At Fox + Feather, affirmation is woven into every aspect of our clinical approach — not treated as a specialty add-on. **Does Fox + Feather serve transgender and non-binary clients?** Yes. We specialize in serving trans-femme individuals and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our team is trained in gender-affirming care and provides a space where all identities are welcomed. **What mental health challenges are more common in LGBTQIA+ individuals?** Research consistently shows that LGBTQIA+ individuals experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and eating disorders compared to their cisgender and heterosexual peers. Transgender individuals face even greater risk. Affirming, specialized care makes a measurable difference in outcomes. **Does Fox + Feather offer telehealth for LGBTQIA+ clients in Connecticut?** Yes. No art experience is necessary to become an art therapy client. If you struggle to express yourself verbally or are interested in a gentle yet powerful approach to change, art therapy may be right for you. Many clients work with us whom have tried talk therapy and found it ineffective in processing deeply-intrusive symptoms. Quite simply, words are often not dynamic enough to describe the human experience. Emotional Expression Emotional Expression: Art Therapy provides a non-verbal way to express complex emotions that may be difficult to articulate, such as those experienced during trauma or while healing from an eating disorder Mind-Body Connection Our sessions combine creative and spiritual practices to foster a stronger connection between mind and body, aiding in self-awareness and recovery. Stress Reduction Engaging in art therapy can reduce anxiety and stress, which are both common triggers in trauma and eating disorders. Empowerment We creates a safe and inclusive space for clients to reclaim their identity, sense of self-worth, and personal magick. Connection to Mother Earth Nature teaches about cycles and rhythm. By connecting to the Earth’s seasons, we learn to better accept change. ```

I have worked with several of the therapists at this practice in a previous setting. They are a group of genuine, empathic, and extremely knowledgeable art therapists. I have referred many clients to them and will continue to do so, as I know they will be in good hands!

More Information Fri, Mar 5, 4pm – Sun, Mar 7, 10am 2027 Mercy by the Sea Madison, CT The patterns of modern-day living have largely left us, as women, disconnected from our bodies, and thus our intuition. Reclaiming our magick is to reclaim the wisdom of our inner-knowing and guidance systems. Over three days on the Connecticut shoreline, you’ll work with SoulCollage®, an intuitive collage practice used by facilitators worldwide, to build a personal deck of oracle cards. Each card is a reflection of one dynamic facet of your Being. We will frame the work through the Maiden, Mother, and Crone: three archetypes, or “faces” of the Goddess. To understand and embody these energies is to be in deep communal space with oneself. Mercy by the Sea is an intentional setting. Creating art as community by the ocean invites a special type of magick- one shaped by ocean waves and rhythmic tides. No other practice approaches therapy like we do: we combine anti-diet philosophy, intuitive art therapy, and the rhythms of nature into all of our offerings. This unique blend of modern ethical practice and ancient healership creates a powerful process in which the Divine in all of us is celebrated. ### Spirituality Art therapy creates a safe space to incorporate diverse spiritual practices and beliefs, ensuring that the therapeutic process resonates with every client’s unique spiritual journey. Many spiritual concepts are expressed through symbols in art, providing a means to explore complex ideas about existence, purpose, and connection to the universe. ### Eating Disorder Recovery We are passionately anti-diet and work with clients to understand the root of their disordered eating patterns, as the heart of food struggles is never actually about food. Through art, clients can gain insight into their behaviors and emotions, promote self-awareness, and develop coping strategies, ultimately facilitating healing and a healthier relationship with food and body image. We are highly skilled at monitoring clients for potential medical complications and will always refer clients to medical professionals for further assessments, or higher levels of care, if needed. ### Trauma Therapy and Posttraumatic Growth It is possible to use art therapy to create positive meaning from traumatic life experiences. Through the non-threatening, creative expression of our pain, we are then free to generate new perspectives on all that we have survived. This process leads to greater resilience in the face of future challenges, and a deeper appreciation for all the joys in one’s life. ### Adolescent and Adult Services We serve clients ages 12 and older and have clinicians on staff that specialize in the developmental needs of varying age groups. Whether it be the challenges of puberty, the transition to college, the complexity of mothering, or the passage through menopause, we’ve got you covered. ### LGBTQIA+ Services Many clients in this community face stigma and discrimination. We offer an inclusive and validating space to foster feelings of belonging. ### Trans-Femme Services EveryBODY deserves a safe space to heal and transform. As a team of cis-gender women, we love validating the Trans-Femme journey. We have worked with clients at all stages of transitioning and seek to support the reclamation of the Divine Feminine in all. ### Nature’s Rhythms Nature’s rhythms teach us about cycles—birth, growth, decay, and regeneration. By recognizing these cycles in our lives, we can better accept change and transitions. This often reduces feelings of anxiety and disconnectedness, and may be a natural remedy for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) --- ### [FAQ](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/frequently-asked-questions/) **Published:** October 25, 2024 **Author:** admin **Content:** # COMING SOON! # Frequently Asked Questions Start Your Healing Journey ## Discover your wisdom. Change your world.™ SoulCollage® is a creative and intuitive process for self-discovery and personal growth, developed by Seena B. Frost in the 1980s. It combines art, psychology, and spirituality, allowing individuals to create a personal deck of cards using images from magazines, photographs, and other visual materials. Two of Fox + Feather’s staff members, Sarah and Abby, are trained SoulCollage® facilitators. ## What is SoulCollage? 1. **Art and Intuition:** SoulCollage® involves creating collages from magazine images, personal photos, and other visual materials. These collages are assembled into cards that symbolize different facets of your inner self. 2. **Personal Exploration:** Each card represents various archetypes, emotions, or life experiences. This process encourages introspection and helps you connect with your subconscious. 3. **Community and Sharing:** SoulCollage® is often practiced in group settings, fostering a sense of community and shared experiences among participants. ## Why Work with a Trained Facilitator? 1. **Guidance:** At Fox + Feather, our trained facilitators will guide you through the process, helping you feel comfortable and providing structure to your exploration. 2. **Deepening Insights:** Trained facilitators can help you interpret your cards more deeply, offering perspectives that you might not have considered. We are trained to ask questions that promote reflection and insight. 3. **Emotional Support:** The SoulCollage® process may evoke strong emotions. As facilitators, we offer support and resources to navigate these feelings, making the experience more meaningful and integrated. 4. **Community Experience**: We lead group sessions where participants can share their cards and insights, fostering connections and collective wisdom. ### SoulCollage® and Eating Disorder Recovery Oftentimes we become so enmeshed with our eating disorder we forget that other parts of our identity exist. Because SoulCollage® emphasizes the idea of parts, this process can help us remember who we are outside of our disorder. The imagery used in SoulCollage® cards can serve as powerful visual metaphors, providing insights into the subconscious and facilitating deeper understanding of one’s relationship with food, body image, and self-worth. ### SoulCollage® and Professional Supervision Navigating our roles as professionals is complex and demanding. In the mental health field we are at high risk for burnout and vicarious trauma. Using SoulCollage® as a method to support our professional roles helps us to call forth aspects of our identities that need support, witnessing, and celebration. ### SoulCollage® and Professional Teambuilding Professionals within the team setting each bring something unique to their workplace. We use SoulCollage® as a teambuilding exercise for individuals to explore the gifts they bring to their professional setting. SoulCollage® as a teambuilding modality is often playful and relaxing and allows coworkers an opportunity to understand one another on deep levels. --- ### [Contact](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/contact/) **Published:** September 11, 2024 **Author:** admin **Content:** # Start Your Journey Today! 725 Boston Post Rd #5 Guilford, CT 06437 **Email** sarah@foxfeatherhealingarts.com **Phone** 860-393-0940 ## Discover the Power of Creative Healing At Fox & Feather Healing Arts, we’re here to support your journey toward balance, wellness, and renewal. Years later, in her own therapy session, Sarah realized she had in fact fulfilled this vision by opening Fox + Feather. Sarah’s healership centers around the knowing that pain and trauma are energetically encapsulated in the heart’s center. Using the ancient practice of creativity, Sarah helps clients extract pain from this part of the body. In doing so, clients are then able to listen to the \*true\* beatings of their heart: desires, wishes, and life’s purpose. Foxes are clever observers: they weave through the forest noting patterns before acting. Sarah does the same: witnessing client patterns and bringing them into awareness. When we are aware, we are then empowered to create change. Crows can travel between timelines. When we heal today, we are also healing our inner child, as well as our future selves. Sarah views eating disorders as the complex product of traumatic experiences, societal constructs, diet culture, and generational/familial toxicity. Food itself is not the problem, nor is the client. Together, Sarah and her clients seek to understand the root of symptoms, by listening to them as messengers. Sarah personally understands the power of creative healing, as she is a survivor of child and adolescent sexual abuse. Art therapy has been the bridge from debilitating eating disorder and PTSD symptoms to a wholesome life full of wonder and play. Sarah is a Board-Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, SoulCollage® facilitator, Ordained Minister, Artist, and Mother. She graduated in 2014 with a Master’s degree in Art Therapy and in 2015 was awarded the American Art Therapy Association’s Gladys Agell Award for Excellence in Research. Sarah has worked in various levels of care for eating disorder recovery including IOP and PHP, and has experience assessing clients for higher levels of care. Sarah has worked with clients in the hospice setting, using art as a tool to express final gifts before imminent transitioning. In 2017, Sarah opened Fox + Feather with just one client and a fervent calling to healership. Fox + Feather is now a vastly known and respected practice in the state of CT due to Sarah’s dedication to the mission of art therapy as transformative magick. # Katy Hyland ### Assistant Director and Lead Adult Clinician MAATC, LPC Katy Hyland MAATC, LPC is an art therapist and licensed professional counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus College in 2018. Katy’s experience is working with clients diagnosed with eating disorders, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders, and various forms of disordered eating. She also has experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and who have experienced trauma. Katy’s path to helping those struggling with eating disorders began in 2017 with a graduate internship at Walden Behavioral Care. In 2018, she returned to begin her career and during that time worked primarily with adults, joining them as a guide on their journey toward finding their power, their voice and toward healing. Katy also identifies as an artist. Her career has allowed her to combine a passion for creativity and self-expression with a desire to help others heal, find meaning and reconnect with themselves. She received her BS in studio art and concentration in photography. Katy feels that art has the power to create connections between mind, body, and soul which, in turn, allows individuals to express what words cannot say, reveal a voice that may have been lost, and discover a path towards healing. # Rachel Cataudella ### Lead Adolescent Clinician MAATC, LPC Rachel Cataudella, MAATC, LPC, is an Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Artist. Rachel believes that the therapeutic relationship serves as a guide in the journey towards expanding personal awareness. Therapeutic art techniques are offered as a means to remove emotional blocks, reveal pathways to awareness, and nourish mind, body, and spirit. Rachel believes in the power of creating art to strengthen the inner voice and reconnect with the Whole Self. Rachel’s therapeutic approach draws from Expressive Therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Techniques. An eclectic blend of these theories is tailored to the individual experience in order to honor each client’s unique healing journey. Rachel received her Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus College in 2020. As a graduate-level intern, Rachel first began supporting clients diagnosed with Eating Disorders at high-levels of care, including Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programming in 2018. Since that time, Rachel has developed a niche for serving the adolescent and young adult populations, and has vast experience working with an array of diagnoses including: Anorexia Nervosa, Avoidant/Restrictive Feeding and Intake Disorder (ARFID), Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder. Rachel also has experience working with clients healing from anxiety, depression, and trauma. Most recently, she was an Associate Clinical Director at an Adolescent Residential facility supervising clinical staff and treating a variety of mental health diagnoses including eating disorders, trauma, anxiety and depression. Abby believes that art can be utilized as a gateway for self-discovery and healing. She has found art to be personally cathartic, while navigating various seasons of life and facilitating a deeper appreciation and mindfulness for the beauty in each day. Abby is interested in mixed media and incorporating non-traditional materials into artmaking. In addition to encouraging creativity in sessions, Abby’s eclectic therapeutic approach draws from her training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) and Family-Based Treatment (FBT). Abby received her undergraduate degree in Studio Art at the University of Vermont and her Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College in 2015. She has supported Veterans, neurodiverse individuals, adolescents, and adults in clinical and community settings. Never too much, always worthy. Becky is a neurodivergent mother of two, a military spouse, and a second-generation cult survivor, which informs her sensitivity to complex trauma and identity development. With over 15 years of experience in graphic design and a lifelong art practice, she integrates a wide range of creative modalities into the therapeutic process. Outside the therapy room, Becky enjoys time with her family, making art, reading, practicing yoga and meditation, exploring nature, and traveling whenever she can. # Amy McNamara ### Adolescent and Adult Clinician LPC-A, ATR-P Words don’t always do justice to the fullness of who we are. There are parts of ourselves that communicate in ways other than words. How do we give voice to those parts that want to be heard? How do we understand when the words do not come easy or even fall short? Amy has long been attuned to subtleties in her environment and the people around her. Many of us look outside of ourselves for answers. Often, our survival depends on it. And while it is true our environment and life’s experiences do shape us in profound ways, we do not have to let it dictate who we are. **We get to choose.** Amy believes in the practice of shifting our focus back to ourselves and tuning into what we want as a way to foster a conscious and functional relationship with our personal history and the future we want to create. Finding trust within oneself can happen through a variety of “other languages”—art making, space-making, identifying personal symbols, astrology, silence, noticing synchronicities and centering one’s self-affirming pleasure and desires. She trusts becoming fluent in the way these parts speak brings access to personal power and agency. This is where the rubber meets the road, the point where one can actually get traction to begin moving forward with ease. Amy would be honored to witness and guide you in discovering your self-fluency. She holds a Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus College and is well-versed in astrology, Feng Shui/ House Therapy, and art-making. She brings to her work over 18 years of parenting, more than two decades of navigating the building and breakdown of a marriage and almost three decades of homemaking. She knows in her bones, as Mia Birdsong reminds us, “laughter is a clue to freedom” and takes every chance she gets to find the joy and humor in life. # Amanda Marino office manager Amanda Marino graduated from High Point University with a B.A in Criminal Justice. After college, while searching for jobs she found herself working at an eating disorder clinic as a mental health counselor. There she gained her experience working and supporting clients with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating DIsorder, Avoident/Restrictive Feed and Intake Disorder, Other Specified Feeding and Eating disorders. She found her passion for helping others and being a part of their journey to food and body freedom. She has training in DBT, CBT, Body Image and is certified as an Intuitive Eating Counselor. Amanda transitioned jobs and became a Meal Coaching Specialist at a residential treatment facility specifically training other staff on meal coaching techniques as well as continuing to support and challenge clients to push past their fears and heal their relationship with food. She now has found herself transitioning out of the supportive role of helping clients and in the role as an Office Manager. She continues to have a passion for helping others and is looking forward to continuing to work in the therapeutic field in a different role. --- ### [Pricing](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/pricing/) **Published:** October 1, 2024 **Author:** admin **Content:** # Fees for Services Start Your Healing Journey ## We offer several payment options to meet the needs of our clients ##### What Insurance Plans Do You Accept? --- ### [Thank You](https://www.foxfeatherhealingarts.com/thank-you/) **Published:** October 25, 2024 **Author:** admin **Content:** # THANK YOU! # We’ll be in touch soon! ## Discover your wisdom.
